Went to the home depot today 1.23.21. I was not planning on going to the outdoor back section, but decided to go see. They had LOADS of roses in packages. I felt my eyes budge when I saw them.
Mostly all my roses died last summer and I have no idea why. Ever since we moved into this house, we had a 'his and hers' we got from Trader's Village. That was back in 2003!) Mine died first, around 2017. I think ants got to them. I managed to save my honey's for 3 more years.
I had a total of 5 rose bushes in pots, then bought a white rose online, just last year - mid summer. I planted it in the ground and planted 2 more next to them. I guess roses and mid summer planting is a no go, because none of those 3 survived.
I noticed they all started getting black too. Maybe too much fertilizer? I didn't ever use it more than once a year. I tried a little more this year... so I blame that. I managed to save one. The small, red, front yard rose. It was huge, and had to be cut back to just one tiny twig left. But it's still alive!
So far it's still blooming, and growing. I hope it comes back bigger than it was.
The hun hates roses, I don't know why. But he is okay with me having them. I am a big fan. Roses remind me of grandma and mom. I told him to help me pick one, so he got the voodoo one. He was hurrying me up, so I just went with the traditional red rose. Later on I decided that I also wanted a lilac one so we went back this weekend and got one more... (I even got matching pots for them!)
I MAY or may not get one more... a white maybe? or yellow?! Not sure. Let's see if the hun doesn't get mad first for getting all these roses hahah!
$6.98 each + 2 bags of dirt $10 each + 3 pots at $10 ea.
OHHH! I did buy one in the beginning of fall 20202 when all mine were completely goners. It's a light rose color that after a while turns to white. I'll need to look for that tag to post it...
So with that said, I now have - 5 roses again!
